Podcasting is the new audio cousin of weblogs, which allows individuals
to publish (podcast) their own DIY radio shows. Consumers can download
shows to their MP3 players and time-shift their listening to when it
suits them. Using RSS feeds, podcasters can automatically send out their minicasts to a list of subscribers and in that way build an audience as ex-MTV VJ Adam Curry has done.
Steve Rubel at Micropersuasion has written this article describing how quickly podcasting is taking grip in the US. He notes that Podcast alley now offers more than 500 podcasts in its listing and that despite being mainly amateurs trying their hand, the big boys including the BBC have started to join in.
Digital consumers march on!
