Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, where he goes into failing restaurants and tries to turn them around, is very entertaining. However, Ramsay doesn't just address the food - he addresses the whole business. The latest version was also a great illustration of the 4Ps of marketing in full effect...
Ramsay was visiting a soulfood restaurant in Brighton which was deep in debt. He reorganised but didn't change the menu (product), he addressed the value customers were getting (price), he took the food out onto the street (place) and took the super-charismatic chef/owner away from the stove and let her passion get to work (promotion). He also focused on what many people think of as the fifth P, the staff and their mindsets. The results were amazing with employees happier, revenues up by 60 per cent, full tables and emptied dishes....
