The talk I went to in the week has been written up in the Observer by Frank Kane, who was the very charming chairman for the evening. The 'chap' he mentions in the article is yours truly. Kane's takeout from the evening...
..seems to be that despite the growth of technology in media he needn't worry about his job quite yet because there will always be a need for the human spirit within news gathering.
I think this is a slightly skewed take on emerging communications technology. The holy trinity of blogs, podcasts and RSS are not about making news automated. Quite the opposite in fact. They are making it more human by massively extending the range of people's involvement.
Kane's view seems to be driven by the EPIC movie the transcript of which he has published in the paper today. On the evening I made the point that the film in fact is pretty much what is happening today - but with a scary voiceover. However, Kane has bought into the film's Orwellian tone.
Lloyd at Perfect Path also has a great take on the evening here.

Thanks for the link James, and for pointing me to the Observer pieces.
I'm sure you meant to put this: http://www.perfectpath.co.uk/archives/000231.html as a link from last word above..! :o)
