This week's Economist carries a review of open source business. The article highlights that open source projects, far from being anarchic as is often thought, are carefully managed. "Open source is starting to look much less like a curiosity of digital
culture and more like an enterprise, with its own risks and rewards". I wrote the manifesto, "What is Open Source Marketing?" about a year ago because I thought (and still think) that the marketing industry's command-and-control model is redundant in a world where information and content roam freely around the globe. I turned to the Open Source Movement because it's born out of the online networks that are becoming so dominant in today's marketing environment. It's a bit geeky for some people's tastes but as a source of insight, language, concepts and techniques it continues to inspire...
