Another interesting theme running through the 2.0 undercurrents is about whether users (aka people) are able to decide what is good for them. The line goes something like,"But if people are allowed to choose whatever they want they will end up just focused on a few narrow areas and ignore all the big important stuff". The implicit point is that people need to be provided with a rich and balanced diet to stop their minds becoming a mushy mixture of celebrity gossip and unimportant tittle-tattle. People haven't got the experience to edit goes the line. IMHO, this is out of whack. People are well able...
..to match content to their interests and preferences. (Or decide what they like). And people have always been happy to mix their own stew - a little bit of meat from the Beeb, with a side of The Sun and a sprinkling of Heat magazine. But 2.0 and specifically RSS means the choice of dishes becomes infinitely more spicy and interesting. And for Big Media the notion of mixing it with with exotic micro-flavours is just too spooky.
