I am getting some great feedback from the manifesto I have written for changethis.com entitled, 'What is Open Source Marketing ?'
Hans Mestrum has translated it into Dutch, while Kyle has kindly offered to translate it into Taiwanese and distibute it under Creative Commons.
It scratched an itch for David Parmet but Darren Barefoot is so unhappy about it he posted twice. (DB does describe himself as Head Geek at the PR company he works at, so I suspect that it's just old hat for him.)
The guys at Corante have started a conversation about it and come up with some great comments and suggestions.
Unexpectedly, Kartlink thinks that all go-karting tracks can learn a thing from it, while Christopher Carfi thinks it doesn't scratch the surface and Ed Batista thinks it's a natural fit for not-for profits.
Haridas Rao, a Retired Chief Engineer, aged 61, working as consultant for NGO Organisations thinks the mainfesto is, 'a fitting reply to the dictatorial, monopolistic marketing practices of branded products in India' and feels it's an approach that the handicraft industry in india can benefit from.
And David Tebbut sees the manifesto as a good roadmap to go from, 'foghorn communications towards genuine engagement.'
Many thanks for all the comments. The manifesto is really intended to open up the viewpoint of traditonal marketeers who are unlikely to ever venture into the world of OS or The Cathedral and the Bazaar but would probably find it interesting if they did. Which is kind of the point of the Open Sauce Live workshops I am doing with Johnnie Moore.
Alex Barnett and Bruce DeBoer continue here, but I'll leave the last word to Andy Lark, who says that he thinks the manifesto is a, 'useful construct for rethinking marketing'.
congratulations! i like your manifesto, too. i think it wraps up the recent trend or "movement" pretty nice and shows good examples how big brands and companies can involve their customers. btw i also liked the trendwatching newsletter that deal with the same issue (http://www.trendwatching.com/trends/GENERATION_C.htm and http://www.trendwatching.com/trends/CUSTOMER-MADE.htm --> hmm seem to be down atm but are worth a read). maybe you (know them or) find them interesting, too.
as i read about the translations: if you are interested in a german version of your manifesto, let me know ;-)
