In this podcast interview Shel Holtz asked me to summarise the manifesto What is Open Source Marketing?...
Johnnie took great enjoyment in pointing out to me that I then embarked on a ten minute monologue, which I tried to make sound shorter by ending with the line,"in a nutshell that's it".
Well, it's a big subject so I think I can be forgiven for a little extra rambling. However, I have since thought that one quick way to describe Open Source Marketing (in a nutshell) is that...
Traditional marketing is Inside > Out
and
Open Source marketing is Outside > In
That's simply because all the media infrastructure (cameras, editing facilities, printing kit, studios) used to be in the centre. Today, that infrastructure (blogs, wikis, RSS, podcasts, Bittorrent) is distributed everywhere and available for use by everyone.
Now that IS a nutshell. Well done :)
