Here in the US a company called Spotrunner is offering a service that allows small companies to run TV ads from $13 for a 30 second slot. You just choose a pre-prepared ad, customise it and then select a schedule online. Not something I'd imagine the ad industry are tremendously happy to see arrive in the marketplace.

Compared Spotrunner to Cheap-TV-Spots.com. Of these, Cheap-TV-Spots.com is the best deal. The air time costs less with Cheap-TV-Spots.com because they don't pad, and the ads can air nationally, too. Spotrunner does not allow national airings or 60-second airings. Also, Spotrunner will sell the same ad to a competitor should you stop airing with them (which you are obligated to do). That's really bad for branding. We are going national with a custom ad from Cheap-TV-Spots for less than it would cost for Spotrunner to make a local canned ad. Now, if Cheap-TV-Spots.com would buy Spotrunner, that would really be a network coup.
