Here at Collaborate Marketing we've long thought that the changing media landscape and growth of the 5th Estate offers bags of opportunity for the PR industry - so long overshadowed by TV advertising. Oliver Blanchard at Corante agrees that now is the time for PR to reinvent itself while Marcel speculates that PR's future role is going to be more about content creation than media relations. Of course, as the Economist points out, the PR biz is in fine fettle so will probably be happy to stick with the status quo. However, the fact that the US version of PR Week (not known for it's, err, modern stance) is carrying an article about open source marketing suggests that the business is changing. And tonight I am off to a Microsoft launch event that I have been invited along to in my role as the Modern Marketing blogger. Interesting times.
Right. The face and future of PR is now changing. Thanks to the online environment and the "blogging" culture, PR is now towards creating a good "content" of useful information rather than simply focusing on promotions and ads. I think that this change is good for the industry, especially that becoming more of a good source, PR pros are gaining the respect towards media.
